David R. Caruso
David is a co-founder of the EI Skills Group. He is also the Special Assistant to the Dean of Yale College (at Yale University, a p/t administrative position).
David is the co-author of the Mayer, Salovey, Caruso Emotional Intelligence Test (MSCEIT). David and colleague Peter Salovey published a practical “how-to” book, The Emotionally Intelligent Manager.
Although he has never had an academic faculty position, David has published a number of scientific articles on intelligence and emotional intelligence, and has spoken around the world on career development, leadership, and emotional intelligence. David is a sought-after speaker for keynote addresses, hands-on workshops and interactive seminars.
His current work focuses on measuring emotional intelligence and the applications of emotional intelligence to the workplace. In addition, David and colleagues are enhancing their measures of EI for adolescents.
David held positions in market research, strategic planning, and product management. He has led numerous product development teams, conducted sales training seminars, developed and implemented marketing plans and introduced new products in the United States and Europe. As a product manager, he was responsible for launching a new line of software products with first-year revenue of $11 mm.
David was a National Institute of Child Health and Human Development pre-doctoral fellow and received a Ph.D. in Psychology from Case Western Reserve University. He was then awarded a National Institute of Mental Health fellowship and spent two years as a post-doctoral fellow in Developmental Psychology at Yale University.
In addition to his part-time staff position in Yale College, he conducts executive assessment, executive coaching, organization development, training, research and writing.
